1. Consider the salaries of Major League Baseball players from 1988 to 2011 (you can find that data at http://www.mathcs.org/statistics/datasets/MLBPlayerSalaries.xlsx). Do you think that this data is normally distributed, using common sense? Confirm your suspicion by drawing a frequency histogram of the salary, using 6 bins. Based on that histogram, do you think the median is greater or less than the mean? Note that your answer must include that histogram, properly constructed with 6 bins.

1. Consider the dataset CollegiateSport.xlsx, which lists revenue and expense reports from more than 225 public schools in the NCAA's Division I. The dataset is available at http://www.mathcs.org/statistics/datasets/CollegiateSport.xlsx. Assuming that this dataset is representative for all NCAA Division 1 public schools, find the average profit that a NCAA Division 1 public school makes per year. Note that you are using a sample to infer about the population, so you need to compute a (95 %) confidence interval, just computing the sample mean is not enough. Ignore the "subsidies" column when determine the profit per school.

The dataset Marvel-DC available at http://www.mathcs.org/statistics/datasets/Marvel-DC.xlsx lists the money made by the various superhero movies worldwide, domestically, foreign, or adjusted for inflation to 2014 values. Determine if Marvel or DC superheroes made more money worldwide, adjusted for inflation, or if they made approximately the same money on average. 'Since the data again consists of a sample, it is not enough to simply compare the means of the two sets (Marvel vs DC); instead, you will need to conduct a test for the difference of means to find out if there is a significant difference between marvel and DC movies. As usual, test at the 0.05-level.

1. The General Social Science Survey provides data from a representative sample of adult US Americans on a wide range of topics. Use the data from the 2008 survey available at http://www.mathcs.org/statistics/datasets/gss2008-short.xls (same data as before) to determine if there is a relationship between "GENERAL HAPPINESS" and whether people think "LIFE is EXITING OR DULL". Note that you want to determine whether there is a relation between two variables. That means that you need to conduct a Chi-Square test of independence.
