Step 5: Create a brief presentation.

You can be as creative as you want for this part. Create a presentation (no longer than 8 minutes) that includes the following elements:

  • description of the scholarly article
• discussion of the relationships between the three types of sources (i.e. misinformation, news, scholarly article).

Sources of misinformation can include Youtube / Facebook / Reddit / rns',tagre posts, memes, personal blogs, etc. Use words like 'conspiracy', 'coverup', or 'misinformation' in your search. Either one is fine, as long as you have something that you can work with and discuss. For example, there is a lot of misinformation about the benefit of wearing medical masks to prevent transmission of Covid-19. Find a specific argument or claim that is not supported by evidence. Be sure to record the URL, as you will need to share it. Step 3: Find a trustworthy source on the topic from a newspaper or magazine. Trustworthy sources have authors and rely on verifiable facts to support their position. Use what you've learned in this lesson to determine the authority of a source. For example, there are a lot of news articles about the benefit of wearing medical masks, as they prevent transmission of the virus, especially when worn by those infected with the virus. Again, record the URL as you'll need to share it later. Step 4: Find a scholarly article from the MSVU databases on the topic. The newspaper [ magazine article and the scholarly article do not need to be directly related (i.e, one mentions the other), they just need to discuss the same topic. The scholarly article MUST be peer reviewed. For example, find an article that describes the science behind viral transmission and how masks work to prevent transmission. Record the article details (author, title, journal title)
