As director of HIM, you are responsible for the conversion from paper-based to an EHR. Prior to the conversion, several activities need to be accomplished within the next 6 months.

First you decide to plan a meeting and set agenda items. Next you will meet with the managers of coding, main file and physician record completion to discuss necessary tasks to be completed. You will then meet with the entire department and explain to them that the department will go through a conversion process. You and the management staff interview EHR vendors prior to making a selection. Upon making a selection you make a recommendation to your Administrator and the Medical Record committee. Next, you prep the paper-based records for microfilm. You send the records to the microfilm vendor who will subsequently destroy the paper records and return the microfiche to you.
