STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS IV. ASSIGNMENT 1. DUE DATE: 30/04/2024
NB: WRITE NEATLY AND UNDERLINE ALL YOUR ANSWERS.
1. A steel beam of an unequal flanges cross section is resting on an elastic
foundation whose modulus of foundation (KS) is 6.5 N/mm2. The beam is 12 m
long, and it is subjected to a concentrated load of 300 kN and anti-clockwise
moment of 0.5 MNm at the centre. Neglecting the self-weight and assuming
freely supported ends, Determine the following:
a) The maximum deflections
b) Slope
c) Shear force.
d) Maximum Bending stress
Assume Youngs modulus, E =200 GPa and the Poissons ratio,
u =0.3.
2. Repeat problem 1, for the case in which the beam is subjected to a uniformly
distributed load of intensity 200 N/mm over a length 3000 mm (a=b=1500 mm)
about the centre, instead of a concentrated moment.
