Define the concept of Diversity? Using your own experience working with different people in a group, discuss the importance and challenges of working with others who come from different backgrounds. (e.g. culture, interests, age, etc). What do you learn about managing diversity? 1. Review the literature related to diversity. In reading the literature, try to identify gaps and establish research questions/objectives 2. Collect data (primary and/or secondary). Each group member will contribute their reflection account about their own group experience, compare and analyse these reflections across group members, then analyse it to generate themes. Students can also collect information from knowledgeable people who are happy to talk about their experience (virtual interviews/chats etc.).
Students can also collect secondary information from published sources (online/offline) e.g. news, social media platforms/discussion forums, etc. Analyse these sources of information and generate themes.

STRUCTURE OF THE RESEARCH REPORT

1. Introduction (brief introduction of research topic. Usually the introduction is the last section to write)
2. Literature Review (sufficient and comprehensive review of relevant literature/previous studies on the topic investigated. The topic is: Define the concept of Diversity? Using your own experience working with different people in a group, discuss the importance and challenges of working with others who come from different backgrounds. (e.g. culture, interests, age, etc.). What do you learn about managing diversity? Students can watch the lecture recording (See Lecture recordings folder), where the course coordinator explained how to search for journal articles using Scopus or other databases available through the USP Library website. Students can also use Google Scholar. In searching for journal articles, students can use any of these keywords such as managing diversity advantages and disadvantages of working in diverse team or any other relevant keyword. The literature review is not just a summary of what has been done or studied by scholars on that topic. The literature review should identify knowledge/research gaps, what is not known yet, what has not been done or studied yet, and then establish why it is important to investigate the topic. Hence, the literature review should be followed by a statement that clearly states the research question and research objective. In this case, the research question is the same as the research topic.
3. Methodology this is a research design or description of how to go about collecting information and data that help you to address the research question and achieve the research objective. Students can collect primary information by interviewing people they know who can share their experience about working in a diverse team. Alternatively, students can reflect on their own past and current experience working with others who come from a different background. Students can reflect on their own group experience in this course, i.e. write a reflection piece on what they learn about diversity and working with others in a group. This reflection will be used as primary information/data that will later be compared and analysed with other sources of information in order to generate themes. Students can also collect secondary information from published sources (online or offline). For e.g. newspaper, social media etc. In this section, students should clearly describe how they collected and analyzed data and then generate themes (i.e. these themes will then be considered findings).
4. Findings Present and provide explanations for Findings (themes) in a way that is clear and easy for reader to grasp. For e.g. use tables, charts, or diagrams etc. to visually convey these themes and relationship between themes.
5. Discussion - Discuss the findings (themes) in light of the literature review. This is where you answer the question, So what? For e.g. in your study you may found out that working with others is challenging because some colleagues not only have different interests but also have access to more resources than others. In this section then you should discuss the so what question? So what does poor access to resources mean to previous findings and studies? Does it support or oppose what scholars had said before? Does it extend our previous understanding of the topic (i.e. managing diversity)? In the discussion section, you are putting your hat as a scholar and critical thinker, and make claims about the contributions and insights from your research that are unique or relevant to improving our understanding on the topic).
6. Conclusion (You can conclude by suggesting implications based on your discussion of findings. Identify managerial/ practical implications and offer some recommendations to practitioners and managers.
