Community resources are an important systemic offering, that can impact whether a child and family are able to meet their basic needs. Needs that fulfill the bottom of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs pyramid (discussed last week), that allow a child to thrive. Not meeting these needs are barriers to thriving.

In last week's lecture, I mentioned how you are in a unique position to help meet these needs, if you work directly with children and families in their Microsystem--as teachers, caregivers, social workers, school staff, etc. often are. To support your career and the possible children and families you will encounter, you will come up with a "Resource Binder" to keep as a tool for reference.

Your research binder will address the following 7 needs: shelter, food, utility assistance, clothing, counseling/mental health, special education & child care.

And provide pivotal information about local organizations that address these needs. Please research organizations in the county of Santa Clara or counties that is around Santa Clara you plan to live and/or work in California. The information should be personally designed to fit into an actual binder that will be submitted for points. This is a professional tool and should appear as such.

Note: If you have design & advanced computer skills, you can also consider making a Google Site, or similar option. Just be sure to meet all the requirements found in the rubric.

Binder Requirements:

-The first pas has to be Cover with a formal title (of your choice) and your name

-A section and title for each need with a minimum of 2 resources listed per need [however, the more the better!]

-Professional appearance with cohesive formatting
