MANAGEMENT EDUCATION As noted earlier, management education involves activities designed to help participants gain a broad range of conceptual knowledge and skills in formal classroom situations, most often from degree-granting institutions. Management education continues to be extremely popular. Enrollments in bachelors and masters degree programs in the United States have grown rapidly since the 1980s.78 It is estimated that approximately 381,000 bachelors degrees, 187,000 masters degrees, and 3,300 doctoral degrees were awarded in business during the academic year ending in 2017.79 Business degrees are the most popular bachelors and masters degrees awarded in the United States; though they are a less popular doctoral degree than other subject areas.80 Excluding the more specialized doctoral programs (both PhD and DBA),81 management education activities can be grouped into two categories:
