summary
You are a system designer for a large IT Software Company, ITSolve. ITSolve have been contacted by a large component supply company with a view to developing an automated stock control system.
You are required to develop a design for a system which manages the stock of a wide range of car parts. Each part is associated with a unique identification number, a description, a cost, a manufacturers name and the number of items of that part that are currently in stock. Each manufacturer is identified by an address, a telephone contact number and a FAX number. An order is a list of one or more parts. When an order is received by the system it should be processed and if the stock levels of that item are becoming low then the item should be re-ordered from the manufacturer. You may assume that orders have been validated before being processed by the system.
Observations
They big problems that I came across in the company was that the workers were on the brink of quitting because they were frustrated with the old system. They would really like it if we interduce them to a new system instead of that old one.
The second observations I made was that they were still living in the stone age using telephone contact number and a FAX number to get in contact with their customers, workers etc instead of contacting each other by network contacting, messaging service etc they could even have Microsoft office set up so they could email each other.
solution
The new system could remove all those problems by putting in email so that they could email each others, decide the times for meeting, do not waste time writing it out. The second thing that the new system could have is teams so that they can call each others to talk about the problems the are having, by sharing their screens they could help each other. The new system would have OneDrive, they could share their work on them. This would remove the use of fax phone and righting out emails completely. The second thing that would be use full is the log box for orders from customers and orders from other companies for the items that this company is selling. I would also compare their old system and the new one using data graph showing how much the company has improved with the new system.
