My second quotation is from page 88 where Master Sun says "To perceive victory when it is known to all is not really skillful. Everyone calls victory in battle good, but it is not really good." In 1864 Union General William Tecumseh Sherman's army faced Confederate General Joseph Johnston's army southwest of Chattanooga. Sherman had a 2:1 advantage in manpower but rather than attack he flanked Johnston and marched toward Atlanta .
