Susan, I would suggest gathering your information by using the Cluster Sample. By doing this sample you will be able to divide the students by gender and ask them random questions on what interest them the most with their lives, what is going on in the world and what they are comfortable with. Separating them by gender to me makes more sense, because each gender has different interests. The data that you gather will better represent each gender and narrow down the choices. This will also give them ownership of what they will be watching.
