Systems Thinking Assessment
can you answer question after reading these : Systems Thinking Exercise
Most of us can easily identify a complex challenge in the workplace. This exercise is designed to help you practice systems thinking by working through some of the steps of diagnosing and moving through problem solving using a systems thinking approach. The exercise will give you an opportunity to observe how systems thinking can be an effective approach to problem solving in a public health setting.
Think about your workplace:
What is achallenge that your organization is encountering?
What are some of the quick fixes you can think of off the top of your head?
Imagine that your boss doesnt know anything about systems thinking and usually takes a linear approach to examining and solving problems. How would you go about explaining systems thinking to himher How would you describe the primary advantage of approaching the problem from a systems perspective to himher Besides solving the problem at hand, what are some possible additional benefits to your organization from adopting a systems thinking approach to problem solving?
Imagine that your boss agrees with you and is willing to give it a try. Which groups might be among those who you would bring together to form a team to work on this issue?
For the purposes of this exercise, imagine yourself as belonging to each of these various stakeholder groups, in turn. How would you see the challenge from each group members perspective?
Attempt to draw what the system looks like. In real life, this work would be done as an exploratory exercise, collaboratively, with the entire group.
What are some possible solutions to the problem? What arepossible results of these in terms of solving the problem? What are possible additional side effects of these solutions?
What is the best way to reduce the likelihood of negative side effects?
Imagine that your boss asks you to lead a multidisciplinary team to come up with a solution to this problem. Some members of the team are resistant to the way you are proposing to work together in other words, they dont recognize, or dont want to recognize, that you all work in a system and that each part of that system has an impact on the whole and its parts. Think back to your response for # above. How would you explain to these members why you believe systems thinking is the best approach forfinding solutions to complex problems?
How would you break through the organizational gridlock that such team members might create?
What did you learn about yourself? Did anything surprise you?
