The student should choose one of the real-life business cases, analyze the problem and write a well- defined paragraph on the problem statement. Select a reason for initiating system request for the above chosen business case and problem definition.
The system request initiation should be for any one of the options listed below and support them with convincing arguments. Below is a list of general exemplars for system request, the student needs to come up with their own system request example.
Please state if the example is a horizontal or a vertical system.
You are required to divide the group into two teams to play a role as a customer(team1) and the analyst(team2) to gather information for system request. Please switch roles for each task accordingly.
1. Improved Service-- to customers or users A new Information System (Customer Relationship Management) to enable customer service representative to remotely trouble shoot system problems at a telecom (e.g., Etisalat).
2. Support for New Products and Services
A new library Information System to allow subscribers to checkout and return e-books electronically (currently only physical books are included)
3. Better Performance- existing system not meeting performance requirements A new e-Commerce Information System to handle large spikes(raise) in customer orders during promotion periods (current system hangs).
4. More information- insufficient information capabilities A new Information System to allow university advisors to retrieve and record all student related information in a single system (currently using 3 systems).
5. Stronger controls- encryption, security, access levels Upgrade existing Information System to record audit trail for all new data entries (none exists now).
