Design a polyamide that satisfies the following criteria: Can make multiple hydrogen bonds with an adjacent polymer
Question:
Design a polyamide that satisfies the following criteria:
Can make multiple hydrogen bonds with an adjacent polymer chain.
Features 2 different monomers, which have no common O- and N-containing functional groups. For example, if one monomer contains an amine, then the other monomer cannot have an amine.
Contains between 3 and 8 C in the repeating unit. The two monomers should have different numbers of C.
ANSWER THE QUESTIONS BELOW ABOUT THE POLYAMIDE THAT YOU DESIGNED
a) Supply the IUPAC name of each monomer. No diagrams.
b) Draw a line diagram of the polymer chain and indicate the [-repeating unit-].
c) Make a copy of the line diagram right below the original. Establish appropriate hydrogen bonds between the two chains. Extend the copied chain if necessary.
d)Calculate the molar mass of each monomer. It is fine to use integer values for molar mass (e.g. C = 12 g/mol).
e) Use (d) to calculate the molar mass of a polymer chain that contains 100 repeating units. Do not worry about significant digits.
