Task 1 The Investigation ____________________________________________________________________ In this task we will identify healthcare trends and innovations. In the next several tasks you will investigate how these innovations are managed, and what role you can play in their management. In your first task you will begin to look at 2 healthcare systems (Mercy and Carolina), and a variety of others. Mercy is a fictitious healthcare system that will be revisited often throughout the HCA online courses. We will use it as a case study to solve real life management issues in healthcare. The Carolina Healthcare System is an existing healthcare system known for greatness. Your goal is to investigate these systems, looking for how they are run and what innovations they promote. You should do as much research as necessary to accomplish this task. Use the guiding questions in each step to take notes that you will use later to complete the task. To get started, work through each of the steps of the task. The first 3 steps are research steps. Step 4 is a doing step. Once you have gathered all the information and completed the task's steps, upload evidence below. You will need to complete and upload a draft of the task by the end of the first week. By the end of the second week, your final submission is required. It must meet all of the criteria here and in the grading rubric. Step 2: Research Other Healthcare Systems Now compare the innovative process at Carolina Healthcare System to other healthcare systems. Look at o non-profit and for profit healthcare systems, large hospital corporations and small community, and rural hospitals. You will also need to conduct an Internet search to find specific hospitals. You are looking for information to answer the following questions: o What are some barriers you found to innovation? Did management do anything to overcome this? o How are major corporations such as Johnson & Johnson addressing innovation in healthcare? What is management doing? What role should such companies play? Is it a conflict due to the products they sell? o What role do small community hospitals play in innovation of healthcare? Will they be pushed out by large hospital corporations? Can they compete with the cost of innovation?
