Task Details:
This assignment is to design a prototype of an information service to support business systems in a contemporary collaborative and complex business environment. Students must identify services that provide value to stakeholders in complex business and social environments.
Groups start by identifying the vision for a system of interest to them and then design a service that addresses this vision and how it will provide value to stakeholders. The design is approached and evaluated from several perspectives, especially the service integration into business activity, process workflow, social networking and knowledge sharing, and user design perspectives.
Apply design thinking to address a real-world problem related to one of the following themes (but not limited to), something that you have experienced at your current or past workplace, or a new unmet demand or challenge in your daily life.
- Health and wellbeing issues
- Living in large/smart cities
- Living in a world of connected e-services/gadgets
There are many ways to discover real-world problems. We recommend looking through IDEOs Design KitLinks to an external site. methods section for examples of how to find problems and corresponding user needs.
Tools:
- You can use Miro, Mural or any tool to design your persona empathy map, customer/user journey map and LOTUS Blossom diagram.
- For building a prototype of your web-based service (mobile app/website) that supports your design, you can use any free AppLinks to an external site./websiteLinks to an external site. Builders.
Please note that you mention them in your report, whatever tools you use.
Some tasks are further sub-divided into sub-tasks. The descriptions for the sub-tasks and the allocated marks are written in front of them in square brackets [].
Task 1 [2 Marks]
Define the issue/problem in your chosen theme and explain the significance of addressing the issue (e.g. conduct desk research and support the importance of your proposed problem) for the relevant stakeholders.
HINT: Stakeholders are the key people, individuals, groups or organisations directly involved with, or indirectly affected by, a product, project, or idea.
Task 2 [3 Marks]
Develop a persona empathy map and customer journey map for a chosen stakeholder (from the list of relevant stakeholders from Task 1), defining opportunities for improvement by identifying the desired gains and existing pains.
NOTE: Include a brief description with each diagram explaining all the pieces of information/elements/features.
Task 3 [3 Marks]
Provide a clear and easily understood joint value proposition of your proposed web-based service/mobile application. Any method for writing the value proposition can be used. Whatever method you use, specify it clearly in your report. All value proposition elements should be included, i.e., headline, sub-headline/paragraph, visual element, and value proposition canvas.
Task 4 [2 Marks]
Draw a 2-level LOTUS Blossom diagram to generate ideas for solutions.
NOTE: ALL group members should contribute to this task. Please do mention your initials on the blossoms (sticky note/s) to show the group members' contribution to ideas for solutions. If two group members share the same initials, you can use your first name with your student ID.
Task 5 [2 Marks]
Describe a feasible revenue model for the proposed web-based service/mobile application (i.e., ways of generating revenue streams, e.g., sales, lease, subscription, advertising and others).
NOTE: Check Week 5 module, mainly slide 11, for various examples of revenue models.
Task 6 [4 Marks]
Description of a low-fidelity prototype of a web-based service (mobile app/website) that will address the selected issue/s. Please note that this must be consistent with your joint value proposition.
NOTE: Check Week 8 module for details about the low-fidelity prototype.
Task 7 [2 Marks]
- [1 Mark] Outline future recommendations (if any) and implications.
- [1 Mark] List benefits and value to stakeholders.
