INSTRUCTIONS: This team exercise allows you to apply your understanding of communication

and negotiating. This exercise is worth 3 points (2 plus a bonus mark)!

TASKS:

1. Review the video clip in the Week 10 March 24 folder.

2. Complete the Conflict Style Questionnaires and the Communication Style Questionnaire.

3. In your teams, engage in the following role play:

You are just about ready to execute your Term Project trade mission. You have just learned that one of your major project sponsors will be reduce their funding to your project by 25%. The implication is that you will have to eliminate one of the countries from your itinerary.

In your roles as country representatives, convene a meeting to discuss and decide which country will be removed from the tour. Each of you should be prepared to defend keeping your country in the tour.

Ensure that your discussions remain civil and professional. Then answer the following questions (1 2 paragraphs maximum):

1. What were your individual objectives going into the meeting? (Each role/student must list their objectives)

The implication for the stakeholders from the country that is eliminated are severe, as they

include among other things loss of revenues, no reimbursements for costs already incurred,

and reputational damage among personal networks and other relationships in that country.

2. What happened during this meeting? (Summarize the highlights in 1 -2 paragraphs OR upload an audio clip with your submissions).

3. What was the outcome? How do each of you feel about the outcome(s) reached? What did you observe about how your particular communication and conflict management style influenced the discussions and outcome(s)?
