Team Building Exercise Project

MGMT 6403: Seminar in Organizational Behavior

Brief Description: In Module 3, your team will work on a team-building exercise and explain why you expect it to be effective. In Module 4, your team will execute and reflect on another team's team-building exercise.

Part 1 - Creation (Module 3):

• Consider what a team like yours might need help developing in terms of norms, skills, or understandings at this point in their existence as a team (i.e., very new)
• Develop a team-building exercise that you think will provide the team with this development
  • It may be helpful to reflect on team-building exercises you've experienced or seen or to do some research (i.e., googling) for what others have done
  • I want you to make the exercise your own, but you can get ideas from existing exercises
  • Plan for the exercise to be completed by a team of 3 within about 30 minutes without any additional expense (no go-carting)
  • It can be as serious, silly, introspective, etc. as you want
• Write up a 1(ish) page instructional sheet for the exercise - it should have sufficient detail that a team with this page will be able to complete the exercise entirely
• In 1-2 pages (single spaced), describe:
  • Briefly, the goals of the exercise - what should the exercise help the team develop or achieve?
  • A justification for the goals - using course content and appropriate in-text citations and references, explain why these are important goals for a team and how they will support the team in future functioning.
  • Why the exercise will help meet the goals - using course content and appropriate in-text citations and references, explain why you think the exercise will help achieve these goals. You may draw from any unit and from outside sources to justify why you think this exercise will improve the development/functioning of the team.
  • Note: This is the section where you are explicitly demonstrating your learning of the ideas in the unit, so be sure to bring in appropriate citations, definitions, and explanations. Dig in and analyze.
• Team members who contributed to the team deliverable should be named on page 1.
• Include at the bottom of your paper the APA-formatted references for the resources you cited, including any of the materials assigned in this course. If you choose to use an automatic reference entry generator, look at the reference it generates to make sure it conforms to APA style (the automatic generators often fail to pull in all of the correct information).
• Your Team Leader will submit a copy of this document on Canvas. A submission for one is a submission for all members of the team. Your Team Leader should then submit a Team Leader Summary Report.
