Develop a long proposal for solving a problem, improving a situation, or satisfying a need in your school, community, or job. Choose a subject sufficiently complex to justify a formal proposal and a specific topic requiring research (including at least one primary source). All proposal topics must be approved by the Instructor.

All group members must agree and commit to the selected topic for the project, as well as share equal responsibility in completing the project. The group will give an oral presentation on the report topic after the final draft is submitted.

Once you've chosen a topic, identify your audience (other than the Instructor) and purpose.

Research and document at least 3-5sources for this paper, using both primary and secondary sources. Use quality sources that lend validity and reliability to your research.Be sure to document all sources according to MLA standards, using both parenthetical references and a separate Works Cited page. Use quotations and paraphrases properly and include parenthetical references.

Body and supporting paragraphs should have topic sentences that clearly align to your purpose statement, and paragraphs must be well developed, unified, and coherent. Sentences should be error free. The tone and style of this paper should mimic that of scholarly discourse, which excludes colloquial expressions and slang.

Group Responsibilities:

  • Develop a purpose statement and determine the scope of the project
  • Gather appropriate research
  • Submit a rough draft of the report to be peer reviewed
  • Submit a final draft of the report on the due date
  • Present to the class an oral report regarding the project

Member Responsibilities:

  • Gather research data and record documentation information
  • Complete a log of all individual and group work completed in the individual Progress Report
  • Write and contribute his/her share of the report
