The bargaining unit members decide if they desire to nullify the union shop provision in their agreement, which must be passed by a majority of the bargaining unit members. If the member loses, the union still represents the employees in the bargaining unit and the rest of the collective bargaining agreeement remains intact, but employees are not required to join the union.
