The basic development process of machine learning comprises model selec- tion, training, and evaluation. In this course, datasets for evaluation are just ones not used in the training phase. However, that is not sucient to measure the general performance of machine learning models. Ma- chine learning evaluation needs two kinds of datasets usually: a validation dataset and a test dataset. Answer the following questions. Why is not evaluation only by datasets not used in the training phase suitable to measure the performance of machine learning models? What are a validation dataset and a test dataset? Why does evaluation need those two kinds of datasets? What property should the validation and test datasets satisfy?
