The Computer and Internet Industry

The first issue is the digital divide, or the disparity in computer and Internet technology existing between the "haves" and the have-nots." You are to do the following:

I.) Address how a major computer manufacturer could effectively deal with the following challenge:

By the end of 2013, approximately 1.5 billion people worldwide had access to computing and the Internet. This is a minuscule proportion of the total global population of 6.5 billion."

You are to assume that you are the "right hand man or woman" of the CEO, and that you must satisfy his ambition to provide computer and Internet technology at minimal cost to the portion of the global population that does not have access to this technology. You must do this in a manner that:

1) Does not require the corporation to incur huge losses. Ideally, the company would at least "break even" on the venture;

2) Explains how well the strategy fits the company's situation- this requires some research of the company;

3) Provides a creative solution or approach- use your wonderful imaginations:

• How will you increase workforce diversity?

• How will you identify and effectively deal with organizational stakeholders?

• How will your solution implement organizational learning practices?

• How will you implement high performance work practices?
