The Double Jeopardy Clause:

Establishes that a person cannot be prosecuted for federal crime after acquittal for a state crime involving the same facts.

Prohibits more than one prosecution by the same sovereign for the same crime.

Establishes that a single crime with multiple victims cannot result in more than one prosecution

Provides that a defendant who was acquitted of a crime cannot be sued for damages in civil court for the same conduct.
