structions: 1. Print the spectra packet. Your answers must be recorded on the provided spectra. There are 15 pages total. 2. Questions 3-7 are worth 10 points each. The breakdown of point distribution is as follows. a) Calculate the degrees of unsaturation (see formula below) [ 1 point]. - This calculation will provide information about the number of pi bonds and/or rings present in the molecule. b) Analyze the IR spectrum. - Label all relevant signals (in the range of 36001400cm1 ) in the IR spectrum using two atoms and the bond type [3 points]. Be aware that some signals require more information, such as hybridization (example: =CH or CH sp p2 or CH alkene). Be aware that some broad signals may overlap or obscure other less intense signals. If so, indicate that these less intense signals appear underneath the broad signals. o In addition to location, you should also consider the shape (broad, sharp, etc...) and intensity (strong, medium, etc...) of each signal. c) Analyze the 1H NMR spectrum. - Draw the structure that you believe corresponds to the IR and 1H NMR [3 points]. Label each unique proton set in the molecule with a letter and place that letter next to the corresponding peak in the 1H NMR [ 3 points]. - Consider the \# of peaks, chemical shift of peaks, integration of peaks, and splitting of peaks to help you determine the identity of the molecule. 3. The spectra packet is due on Friday, February 17 by 3:30 PM EST. This document should be turned in hard copy to Dr. Carroll (SH 307) by the due date. Late assignments submitted
