The Food Truck Licensing App - ERD assignment
Please solve this as soon as possible.
Mark unique identifiers with asterisks. Use concatinated identifiers where possible (do not assign IDs unless necessary).
Assignment:
Your friend from the Entre Club has been keeping an eye on the Food Truck movement in the
United States. He has decided that food trucks are not only a lot of work but also a relatively low
margin business. On the other hand, he wants to corner the market on systems for municipalities
to use in licensing food trucks. It is a growing business since small towns without IT staff want
to join the Food Truck movement. And, of course, their licensing fees bring revenue to the
municipalities. Hence the idea: an IT system for licensing food trucks to sell to small
municipalities.
As part of developing a system for licensing food trucks, your friend (knowing you have taken
IDSc 3202) has asked you to create a logical ERD.
The team has started by learning more about Minneapolis Food Truck licensing policies and
practices which are easily accessed online1. The team has decided to use a modified subset of
these requirements to build a selected features prototype. You are in charge of the data model.
Here what your team has learned:
A. A mobile food vehicle VENDOR (that has a food truck or a group of food trucks) must
provide
Legal name of business
Trade name
Business phone
Applicant name
Applicant email
Applicant address
Licensed Kitchen name (where the vendor will prepare the food)
Licensed Kitchen state license number.
ach LICENSED KITCHEN has a state license number and a kitchen name. Multiple vendors
can use the same kitchen. We only keep track of kitchens used by vendors. Each vendor uses
only one licensed kitchen.
B. The VEHICLES used by the VENDOR. The Minneapolis online form is straightforward.
Each VENDOR must fill out this section:
Note that:
A VIN number is a unique identifier of vehicles
Year, Make, Model can be really difficult to implement. We are going to stick with
Manufacturer (Make) and Year.
In our prototype, we want to keep track of LICENCE PLATE information for each vehicle,
including License Plate #, State, and the expiry date of the license tabs (take care, remember the
definition of an entity). Keep in mind, two states can issue a license plate with the same number.
The combination of state and plate number are unique.
C. The Mobile Food Vehicle VENDOR must be classified as either a:
SOLE PROPRIETER (including the sole proprietors SSN)
PARTNERSHIP
i. Partnerships need the state of incorporation, date of incorporation, Minnesota Sales Tax ID,
and a flag noting if they are a publically traded partnership.
ii. Partnerships also require the PARTNER info including names, phone, date of birth, % of
ownership, address, and crime conviction status of all partners. Keep in mind a particular
individual (instance of PARTNER) might be a partner in multiple partnerships (each with a
different % of ownership). Similarly, a partnership might have many partners. Hint: Review
figure 6-5(Pg 192-193 from your text) many-many relationship and the section on Interaction
Entity(page 199 from your text).
Getting Started
You are going to develop an entity relationship diagram, following the steps from our text (pp
196-198)
Identify the entities
Add attributes and assign candidate identifiers
Identify relationships
