The goal of taxes is to generate revenue for the government to work the way it's supposed
Question:
The goal of taxes is to generate revenue for the government to work the way it's supposed to. The U.S. government gets half of its revenue from individual income taxes (Tax Policy Center). While the government's revenue is still not enough to keep it from running a deficit, the greater the income the better. Progressive tax systems are the best for generating revenue since they tend to, "collect more taxes than flat taxes or regressive taxes, as the highest percentage of taxes is collected from those with the highest amounts of money" (Kagan). Not only is our current tax system the best for generating a large, stable income, it is also the fairest because the rich are responsible for paying a greater portion of taxes. For these reasons the U.S. government should continue using their current tax system as it is the best option for our country. Discuss?
