The goal of this is to conduct a cost-benefit analysis on whether to add and how to add a physician extender. Please note that this case looks at the numbers for just one year. If you think of an NPV cash flow timeline, this case is a focus on one year's cash flow. This is a part of the process of the NPV valuation. Dr. Gapenski wrote most of the original cases in the casebook. They have been updated and altered over the years, but they are all based on real cases on which he worked. This case is written with a colleague (maybe one of his former students) and has received a lot of positive reviews from other professors. I decided to try it because of these reviews. However, I want to note that the case is NOT about whether nurse practitioners or physician assistants are equivalent to physicians or which one is better. I am not trying to hurt anyone's feelings. My goal is for us to examine from the financial perspective the use of physician extenders. 1. Describe the differences between nurse practitioners and physician assistants. What are their relative strengths and weaknesses? The goal of this is to conduct a cost-benefit analysis on whether to add and how to add a physician extender.
