The hand-in is to record your experience using the techniques presented in the chapter. After reading the case follow the "rational problem-solving model." On the first page of your hand-in, state the problem and three alternative solutions using your usual problem-solving approach. On the remaining 2 or 3 pages demonstrate your application of chapter creative problem-solving techniques.

Part A) Write ...The problem I AM GOING TO SOLVE IS........ (provide precisely worded problem statement) Follow typical analytical problem-solving model. See Table 3.1

Part B) Apply creative problem-solving hints and techniques given in the chapter for Methods for Improving Problem Definition and Ways to Generate More Alternatives. Grades will be awarded for using more than one technique for each task i.e. problem redefinition and generating alternatives? Note that redefining a problem is not about simply rewording the problem. The objective of this assignment is to see how applying creativity principles can broaden your approach to any problem.

Part C) Briefly describe your experience. Did applying the problem redefinition and alternative generating techniques change your perspective on the problem? Were you able to see a wider range of possible approaches. Good problem solving involves a combination of rational and creative techniques. How would you combine the two in the "Rankings" case?
