The Learning Journal assignments in this course are designed to help students explore concepts

from the course, conduct research to support their thoughts about these concepts, and to

relate the concepts to actual examples in business or in their professional/personal lives.

Learning Journal Assignment #1 - Management Skills (due October 6 at 11:59pm):

The textbook, scholarly articles, and your personal experience provide many examples of skills

that managers should have in order to be successful. Skills should not be confused with traits or

behaviours (e.g. resolving conflicts is a skill; intelligence is a trait).

In this learning journal assignment you must identify and describe three important skills

you think are necessary for a career in Management;

You must also provide an example of how a manager exhibits these skills and why they

are important (your examples can be drawn from personal experience or from the

business or professional world);

Finally, you must support your choice of three skills and/or your supporting example

with external research. This course includes videos and resources on how to conduct

research and how to properly attribute that research according to APA guidelines.
