The Memory Essay Length: 500-750 words Due Dates: First draft due Feb 4 Final draft due Feb 18 Essay Instructions For this assignment, I'd like you to write about a memory that has some meaning for you. A memeory is not necessarily something that happened a long time ago. Rather, a memory is an experience that you reflect on. It can be something that happened last week or a moment from your childhood, but for our purposes, it is something that has happened before this assignment was given. | would like you to write an essay that does two things: shows the memory with one or more scenes reflects on the importance of the memory and why vou it has stuck with you. Explain to your reader why it was important and/or what you learned from the experience. The memory you choose could be pleasant or difficult; you get to choose the tone of the essay and what you feel comfortable sharing. Keep in mind that other people will be reading your essay, so choose a memory that you are willing to share with others. Write one or more scenes and re-create details as accurately as possible, even talking to friends or family members who might help you remember aspects of the memory. All good writers of creative nonfiction conduct research. In this case, you are researching your own experiences. We do this because memory is not always reliable and other people might be able to shed important light on our experiences. Focus especially on showing people in action, yourself included, who were involved in the memory. Use dialogue to let these characters speak, and choose interesting details to make the scene vivid and alive.
