The Mighty Micro Brewery

Mighty Micro Brewery (MMB) is a craft beer brewery headquartered in Riverside. MMB started with humble beginnings brewing its first batch of beer in 2017 in the owners garage. The brew quickly became popular, and the owner moved into an industrial space in 2019. On the Micro-Brewery level, MMB has been rated as a "world class brewery" by beer enthusiast websites, which includes the Beer Advocate.

The company currently employees 20 people and is looking to grow and expand in the future. Typically, the company brews about 15,000 barrels of beer per year but has a desire to expand its current level of output. Currently, MMB acts as a wholesaler and sells its product to the local restaurants and nightspots in the Riverside/San Bernardino area.

During the recent pandemic MMB saw a decline in sales due to the closure of bars and restaurants during the pandemic. To make up for the decline MMB began selling directly to consumers through carry-outs as well as a delivery service. This change helped sales, but did not make up for the shortfall, and MMB had to reduce its staff by 40% and had to reduce production as well. Eventually MMB was able to secure a PPP loan and attempted to rehire back their staff, however due to labor supply shortages not all staff returned and MMB is still struggling to find the necessary talent to operate its business.

With the lifting of pandemic restrictions, business to bars and restaurants has increased and MBB is considering opportunities to expand its business by opening a Brewpub at its current location offering food services and entertainment. MMB has also considered selling their product globally to increase its market share and tap into a new customer-base. Although MMB has all the necessary licenses to sell and distribute alcohol in the U.S., a global expansion would mean additional regulatory hoops the company would need to ensure its compliance with exportation.

The key to producing beer, is maintaining the quality, flavor, and following the right brewing technique. This is dependent on the availability of raw materials, supplies, and maintaining equipment, which has been somewhat hampered by supply chain issues that have been occurring world-wide.

With people craving a good beer, the microbrewery business is growing rapidly, and the market is expanding with many new companies entering the market space, which means increased competition for MMB.
