the resistance between one of the end pins and the middle pin is adjustable

the resistance between the two end pins is the nominal resistance

the size of this resistance between one of the end pins and the middle pin will change the amount of voltage that the arduino will read from the potentiometer$$s middle pin

you will be given a small screwdriver to adjust the potentiometer and its resistance
