The purpose of this assignment is for you to gain an appreciation for the applications of the concepts you’re learning in this unit. In doing so, you will deepen your understanding of the topics and practice self-directed problem-solving.

To complete this assignment you will need to do three things:

1. 1. Ask a good question.

This question will need to be open-ended, related to a topic in the fields unit, and explorable by you in some way.

2. 2. Discover an answer.

You don’t actually have to find one perfect answer, but you need to make a real effort to find an answer. You should learn what you can from research and do an investigation on your own to explore the answer. Note: an investigation doesn’t need to be a huge undertaking; see below for ideas.

3. 3. Make a product.

You need to demonstrate the first two things you did. It can be whatever you want, as long as the evidence of your effort and learning is there.

Suggestions (these are ideas for you, you may choose things not listed here)

Questions: How do…, how can…, how would…, what makes, why might…, etc.

Topics: law of gravitation, orbits, orbital velocities, electric charge, electric fields, electric potential. These may have interesting applications in space exploration, electronics, popular media, etc.
