The question here is one of fire department involvement. Granted, there are a number of arguments for why a fire department should not provide this service. Probably the most common arguments include budget constraints, political pressure, and lack of technical training or staff to perform the service adequately, not to mention redundancy. Can the argument be made that everything pertaining to fire prevention is already addressed by all the other municipal departments? The question remains relative to its importance. For example, the construction of the building lies under the auspices of the Building Department; sprinklers under the Water Department; electricity under the Electrical Department. So why involve fire prevention when aspects of the building's construction fall under the jurisdiction of other municipal departments? Simply put, is fire prevention even necessary?
