The Role of Leadership in the Strategic Management Process: One of the first things a strategic leader must do is to shape an organization's vision, mission, and values, as each of these plays an important role in anchoring a winning strategy. According to Jim Collins in Good to Great, in order to "become an effective strategic leader, you need to develop skills to move sequentially through five leadership levels: highly capable individual, contributing team member, competent manager, effective leader, and executive" (Collins, 2001). Strategic leaders spend much of their time dealing with ambiguity and uncertainty within the Strategic Management process. Discuss the role of leadership within the Strategic Management process and how Level-5 Strategic Leadership may be useful. Specify the approach you would take in dealing with the ambiguity and uncertainty you may be faced with in your strategic planning efforts.
