The SECI model has four steps that reiterates like a spiral: 1) Socialization, in which one person verbally transfers or demonstrates tacit knowledge for others to gain as tacit knowledge; 2) Externalization, in which tacit knowledge is captured, codified, and transferred to referenceable explicit knowledge; 3) Combination, in which explicit knowledge is combined with other explicit knowledge to create knowledge products, such as various types of reports, analyses, executive summaries, and databases for further use; and 4) internalization, in which the information culminated from the explicit synthesized knowledge products are used and integrated into tacit knowledge through individual experience in the performance of daily roles and gets reframed through that individual lens, naturally leading to the new tacit knowledge being shared through the socialization step once again.
