The statement "As writers, we tend to be more comfortable with editing" is confusing because it leaves me asking, relative to what? I'm assuming the actual writing piece. We are more comfortable editing ours or others works, than we are writing. I think this statement still holds true, because for me, I am definitely more comfortable editing work that has been written already as opposed to writing a completely new piece.

The main reason for this, and why this statement is true, is not because how comfortable I am with editing but because of my struggles with beginning to write. When it comes to editing, you already have a finished piece in front of you are you are simply restructuring a finished product. Whereas writing you have no product to begin with, you are starting from scratch.

Some of the biggest struggles one might face with revision is becoming too comfortable with your own stylistic writing choice. It's difficult to be able to revise a piece of writing you wrote if it sounds nice to you, as if you were speaking it yourself. That's why peer revision is so important in my opinion. A writing piece could read so clear and cohesive to the actual author, but when read by someone else, confusion could arise. So personally, my biggest struggle in revision, is not being able to step out of my mind and read it from someone else's perspective who may hold a completely different writing style. One strategy that may be helpful in combating this revision struggle is reading to yourself out loud. It's something that I've mentioned in a previous discussion but I think hammering the importance of this tip is helpful and will yield results in the long run. Even though your writing style may read nicely because it is your own personal style, reading out loud to yourself may help separate your text from your voice, ultimately seperating yourself from your own writing style. I do not think that reading out loud is a substitute for a peer revision but I do believe that it performs a similar job.

Based on the discussion above, offer 1-2 strategies that you have found helpful when it comes to revision?
