The System Design Team $($Integrated Product Development Team$)$ approach offers advantages for large development projects, but it can also create conflicts with those schooled in a more traditional Matrix organization approach. It is still widely used and was, in fact, how the RAH$-66$ Comanche development project was organized. An excerpt from the DoD IPPD implementation guide $(1998)$ is provided for reference.
