The Systems Analysis phase should have been the most critical of all the phases of systems development. Briefly discuss and give reasons to support your position.
Answer:
The system analysis phase is the most critical phase of systems development, used to establish in detail what the proposed system will do ( as opposed to how this will be accomplished technologically) essentially determining where the problem is and attempts to fix the system. It establishes the objectives of the new system, conducting an analysis of its cost and the benefits to be derived from it, outlining the process of systems implementation. It also establishes who the system users are, what information they should get ie.in what form and how this information will be obtained from the incoming data and from the databases. It breaks down the system into different pieces to analyze the situation, analyzing project goals, breaking down what needs to be created and attempts to engage users so that definite requirements can be defined. The purpose of this phase is to build a logical model of the new system. The first step requirements modeling, where you investigate business processes and document what the new system must satisfy users. Requirements modeling continues the investigation that began during the systems planning phase. The deliverable for the systems analysis phase is the system requirements document. The system requirements document describes management and user requirements, cost and benefits and outlines alternative development strategies.
