The Week Five Problems are worth a potential of two points.

Problem Directions: For the past four weeks, the class has been reading cases and statutes as part of the assigned reading. This week, you are assigned two problems that focus on the methodology of locating legal source materials. You have two multi-part problems to answer, as set forth below:

Problem #1. (a) Using a search engine (any search engine), locate a federal Supreme Court case with the name of "Gideon" as one of the parties; (b) describe each of the steps necessary to locate the case; (c) add the correct legal citation for the case from the legal source material to your answer.

Problem #2. (a) Using a search engine (any search engine), locate the statute entitled the Employee Retirement Income Security Act; b) describe each of the steps necessary to locate the statute; (c) add that correct legal citation for the statute from the legal source material to your answer.

Grading: The assignment is a research problem, not an essay. Describe each step in a separate sentence. To earn full points, your methodology must demonstrate an understanding of the legal research concepts presented by the problems and the individual steps involved in locating legal source material. In addition, your citation of the appellate case and the statute must meet acceptable APA/legal research standards. There is no minimum word count or minimum citation number applicable to this assignment. Students should, however, properly cite the sources of their work.
