There are two general design principles that all applications follow. Top-down (which usually starts with upper management) is essentially reverse engineering, taking a general requirement and continually breaking it down until all the components have been defined. Bottom-up (which usually starts with users) takes existing operations and functionality and puts them together until the application is complete. Discuss your list of pros and cons of each principle, and which one you, as a developer, would prefer.
