IE 4513/6513 - Case #2 Extended Lunch Due Date (on-campus): Fri., 2/28, 10:00 AM Facts of the Case: One of the company policies of J&J Enterprises is to allow employees to take an extended lunch break (beyond the normal 30 minutes) in order to participate in some sort of physical exercise. The employees are expected to either come to work earlier or stay later in order to make up for this time. Jim Jones is an employee in the design section of J&J. Joe Smith is the chief of the design section. Jim is one of the employees who takes advantage of the extended lunch session. Most employees take an extra fifteen to thirty minutes and make up their time by staying late. Jim consistently takes an extra hour and fifteen minutes at lunch and seldom makes up his time. Jim has been cautioned by other employees that he should make up some of his time. Jim improves for a short time, but then reverts to his old habits. Joe has never said anything to Jim about his extended lunch, and appears to be unaware that Jim is not putting in a full day of work. Other employees are beginning to take extended lunch breaks without putting in any extra time. Jim also works a great deal of overtime that would probably not be necessary if he would work a full day. (Overtime is paid at %150 of the regular-time rate). Jim also turns in overtime without working it. Questions of the Case: (1) Assume that you are one of Jim's colleagues, and you are aware of these problems. What should you do? (Justify). (2) Assume that you are Joe, and you are made aware of these problems. What should you do? (Justify)
