There's a hidden function behind any process of change in nature and human activities.In our class,I use a cup of hot coffee as an example:we all observed/experienced its temperatureundergoing a process of gradualchange. We have learned that the derivative function models the 'average rate of change'; later, from the derivative function, we will find the hidden function (estimated)by integration.

For the project you can use private data or public available data sets. From my experiences, students tend to have many issues on collecting private data, so you have better to discuss with me if you are thinking of your own data.

Public data - for a process of change over time example:earth climate data,population data (of earth, country, city etc., medical data (cancer occurrences), economical data(GDP, interest rate changes, stock prices (weekly or monthly), or any reasonable data set describing a change process.

Assignment:

1. Post a short paragraph describing your project, where does your data come from,

2. collect the data for 50 - 80 data points in a two column (x, y)format in Excel

3. Attach a line plot (plot y versus x )
