There's no one true desktop environment for Linux. Unlike competing for operating systems like Windows, Linux users have a choice of many different desktop environments, all with their own styles and strengths.

You can install one of these desktop environments after installing your Linux distribution and switch between desktop environments from the login screen. You can also choose to install a Linux distribution that comes with a desktop environment.

The following is a sample of some of the desktops that are available:

• Xfce
• Cinnamon
• Mate
• LXDE
• Xmonad

Directions: For this assignment, research four different desktop environments, looking specifically at the features of each and their stock applications. Create a comparison chart that compares the features of each desktop environment and their stock applications. In a one to two paragraphs, indicate which is the 'best' choice for you and why. Howtogeek.com (Links to an external site.) has a helpful article about eight Linux desktop environments, but you will need to use other sources in your quest for more information. Make sure to cite any sources you use in APA format.
