Lecture 13:

Which stages of B cell development are antigen independent and which are antigen dependent?

o Pre- and pro- stages are independent, immature/transition/mature are dependent

What are the components of a pre-BCR?

o Lambda5, VpreB, heavy chain

What is isotypic exclusion?

o If kappa has rearranged, lambda will not attempt rearrangement. A BCR light chain can be only one of the two

A question on receptor editing "last year that most students got wrong" (slide 13)

o Ig light chain (not heavy) will try to rearrange multiple times to give it more chances, it only stops when it runs out of the genetic machinery (RAG and stuff)

Where does the survival signal come from for transitional B cells?

o BAFF expressed on follicular dendritic cells

Difference between the two classes of dendritic cells?

List all 5 different routes of antigen processing/presentation (slide 15)

o Phagocytosis, pinocytosis, viral infection, cross presentation, transfer from dendritic cell

Why do only activated T cells undergo clonal expansion from IL-2?

o Theyre the only ones with a HIGH affinity IL-2 receptor
