These problems are to be solved primarily using Excel and your submission is an Excel file. Any handwork or results from
additional computational tools should be included in your Excel file and thoroughly documented. Your solutions should
also clearly show the equation or equations you solved. A file upload link is available on Canvas.
[40 pts]
The figure below shows the channel profile for a wide, rectangular channel. Water enters the upstream section at a
depth of 0.4 m . The channel carries a discharge per unit width, q, of 2m3m*s and has a roughness, n, of 0.015.
Determine the following:
a. The normal and critical depths for both sections (10 pts)
b. A hydraulic jump will occur in Section B. If the depth upstream of the jump is the normal depth for Section A,
calculate the length of the jump and the depth after the jump. (15 pts)
c. Sketch and clearly label all gradually varied flow profile types that exist within the channel. Note, you do not
need to calculate the actual water depths along each profile but just provide a conceptual sketch that clear
shows shape (convex or concave), normal depth, critical depth and identifies the profile type. (15 pts)
