Thesis statements often make an overarching claim that can be broken up into smaller subclaims. Write a sample thesis statement and then write at least 3 support sentences to back up your position. You may use one of the thesis statements you wrote in last week's thesis exercise or you may come up with a new one. Remember that this is just an exercise. These support statements do not need to be proven or backed up with research. Here is an example. Thesis: Climate change is the worst problem facing society today. Support 1: Fuel emissions are pumping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere which deplete the ozone layer. Support 2: The polar ice caps are melting which will cause ocean levels to rise. Support 3: Climate change will continue to cause dangerous weather systems such as massive hurricanes that endanger human life.
