Background This case study focuses on describing a desired state and diagnosing what needs to change in an organization. Instructions Choose one of the following organizations to use for this case study: Netflix Amazon Apple Google Facebook Each of these organizations have work, people, structure, and culture. You may have to do some research to learn more about your chosen organization. Step 1. As a group or individually, discuss what an ideal tech company would be like. Describe a desired state for the company in one or two sentences. What are the company's aspirations? What intrinsic or extrinsic factors would make the company great? What future strategies do you think the company should implement? What changes do you think would positively impact the company's performance? Step 2. Individually, use the Nadler-Tushman Congruence Model to analyze one element of your organization: work, people, structure, or culture. Each member of your group will analyze a different element, or if you are working alone you will need to analyze all four elements. Use the resources available, e.g., company website, articles, social media, your peers, etc. for your analysis. Record your findings on the applicable Template (below). For example, if you are analyzing culture, you will record your information on the Template - Culture document. You will be submitting this work. Step 3. As a group (or on your own if you are working individually), compare and discuss the analyses of the elements. Is there a disconnect between the current state and the desired state? Step 4. As a group (or on your own if you are working individually), discuss what should be changed and why. Use the following questions to guide your discussion: If you were to propose a change, which element would you prioritize? Why? What do you expect to happen as a result of your proposed change? What will be different? How will you know that change is effective? What will be the evidence or indicators of success? Record your findings on the Template - Summary (below). You will be submitting this work. Step 5. One member of the group is to collect all working documents for submission: Template - Summary; Template - Culture; Template - People; Template - Structure; and Template - Work. There are five (5) documents in total. Each member of the group should then submit an identical copy of the full document. Please make sure your name is on the individual document you created, and that all names and ID#s are on the summary document.
