This assignment entails facilitating a team session with your work team. If you are not part of a team in your work setting, find a team in another context (personal) with whom to do the work.
You will reflect on the implications of various individual profiles in the team dynamic.
Follow the process below:
Ask the team you have selected to complete their individual DISC and MBTI profiles and share their outcomes with you. Link available below.
Plot the team on the two templates (the DISC team profile and the MBTI Team Styles Profile) and remember to include your own as well.
Host a session with your team (1.5 to 3 hours) as follows:
a. Engage the team on their experience of the process. What new insights emerged for each person?
b. Give a brief overview of DISC and MBTI.
c. Share an overview of the team profile.
d. Lead a team discussion about the implications of this combined team view (assessment).
e. Use actual work examples and behaviours to discuss this. Do not have a generalised, theoretical discussion.
f. Agree on a few actions that will enhance the teams functioning.
For your assignment, you have to present a consolidated report on your teamwork. NB: Include the consolidated profiles and team assessment as an annexure to the assignment. Write a reflection on this experience, answering the following questions:
1. What surprised you about this work?
2. What are the implications of the diverse profiles for the team?
3. What are the core leadership lessons you have learned from working with this team with its diverse styles and preferences? (If you have not worked with this team, i.e. you do not have a team and have chosen 4-6 people who are not a team to complete the questionnaire, then ask yourself what the leadership challenges would be if this was a team.)
4. What could be sources of conflict and misinterpretations between the members of the team? Give examples; do not merely provide theoretical descriptions.
5. What is the potential for synergy in this team? How can the team members leverage off each other?
6. What could be blind spots for this team and what are the implications of such blind spots for the team?
7. What specific actions have the team agreed on because of these insights and awareness?
