This assignment is designed to give you experience with process control charts and determining process capability.
A important aspect of this course is teambased project work. The business that is being simulated is a helicopter business, which you will simulate by creating and flying paper helicopters. The key business metric is the flight time, measured as the elapsed time between release and when the helicopter hits the floor.
All team members will be responsible for all of the project actions. The teams will meet virtually and in the discussion forum. Data should be shared among the team members. Each team member should conduct the analysis independently, and then get together with the rest of the team to share results, finalize the analysis, and write up the assignment submission. When completed, each team member should make sure that he or she understands what is being submitted. Let me emphasize that every student is responsible for the whole project.
Your project work should be documented as a project submission, as if being submitted to management or a client. APA citations are not required in this project work.
Using the paper helicopter data collected in Week by one team member, take the following steps to create and analyze a process control chart and to determine process capability:
Enter your helicopter flight times into a single column.
Conduct IMR control chart analysis and report your interpretation
Conduct process capability analysis according to the following instructions:
Initially assume a normal distribution.
Assume a subgroup size For each subgroup there is a single helicopter flight time.
The lower specification for this process is seconds. That means that any flight less than seconds is not acceptable to the customer and is considered a reject. There is no upper specification limit; leave the upper spec value blank. This is considered a unilateral tolerance.
Select Options and choose to display Percents instead of Parts per million.
Click OK OK to get the results.
Report the process capability in terms of actual percent defective and expected percent defective.
Only one team member should submit the report. Submit the report as a Word document, copying and pasting pertinent Minitab results into the Word document. You can also submit the Minitab file as a supplementary file. This is recommended in case I need to diagnose something that may not look correct, for possible partial credit. I recommend that from week to week, the team roles should be switched up
