Presume you are the manager of a marketing team and because of COVID restrictions you have all been working remotely for many months. Although you frequently communicate with your team via email, Zoom, and text, you have not had the luxury of informal, hallway conversations, lunch together, or occasional social events after work for more than 8 months. You sense your team is feeling anxious, stressed, and uncertain about the future. In-particular you have noted comments made at the end of Zoom meetings about the slow rate of vaccinations, the third wave that is impacting may countries, the impact of the pandemic on the Canadian economy, the persistent strain on the intensive care facilities in Ontario and the current lockdown. These are truly unprecedented and difficult times, and as a leader you feel you should provide some encouragement and comfort to your team. You recognize that stressed employees are unproductive, may lead to underperformance, and could ultimately lead to unplanned resignations.
Reflect on the learnings in our course so far, particularly theconcepts of PASS, Outlining, the Four As of Structure and the tips for creating good email messages. (Each of these concepts should be incorporated in your work.) Then, plan and write an email to your team addressing your concern for their wellbeing.
